Neon Park Tributes

LITTLE FEAT 1996 Double CD Concert Album "LIVE FROM NEON PARK" on Zoo Entertainment/BMG

Tributes from FEATPRINTS #9 [Winter 1993-1994] "This issue is dedicated to Neon Park, long may he live in our visions"

TO NEON PARK by Richie Hayward

Your gift of expression,
love of life, subtle wit
humorous spirituality
and gentle ways
I shall never forget.
God keep you my friend,
you are free.
I will miss you.

The following NEON PARK TRIBUTES by Bill Payne and Paul Barrere show the birth of the lyrics (reprinted below) to the Little Feat song titled BORDERLINE BLUES that is itself a tribute to Neon Park on the Little Feat albums "Ain't Had Enough Fun" and "Live From Neon Park"

FOR NEON by Bill Payne

take it all to a better place
conversations with the other side
knots of rope, sea shells and bottles filled with hope
the spirit moves on
I'm on the run in another city another country far from home
bright lights will guide me
borderline blues far behind me
the mirror I see shows the lines in my face
maps of my destiny
another night
looking to a part of the road otherwise not visible to the naked eye
I see the coast the stars the waves
it's a rocky coast brilliant stars in the sky not a person in sight
the danger is in taking a punch from the blind side
but never take the dive
I ask is it ok to cry it's ok to cry
hang on hang on they say you know when it's your time
walk slow and listen
the soul says it all
awakening my heart long lost from sleeping
gone 'fore your time gone 'fore your time
quiet contemplation the emptiness surrounds me
silent conversations the words echoing
pictures forever in my mind what's past is past
old friend of mine
I sit upon a hill and gaze out on the diamond lights
strange night a strange city down below
a childs voice from the distant past
lost in the neon echo
tomorrow is forever
tonight let's dance together
I miss you dear friend of mine.

POEM FOR NEON by Paul Barrere

I'm dreamin while I'm awake
and I really don't care for anyone
my soul to take.
I still have dues on it
besides, no one's called my number for some time
but yours, my friend, were paid in full
they passed the hat and found
your glass was filled
and it was your turn
to dance in the light
dance on into eternity
we'll hear the drum
together again some other day
we'll talk again on the other side
but for now
we must say goodbye
and let you get some rest
thanks for all your time
Neon light shines
on and on in my eyes
pictures never die
and I'll remember
always etched in my memory
cloudbursts in color
hot crossed lines
on canvas, on paper
trips into the center
a circle starts and stops
and starts again infinitely
I'll miss your heart
I'll miss your mind
I'll forever miss your wit
but your soul and spirit
always remain with us
you were what's hip.............
a duck....................with lips!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"BORDERLINE BLUES" (Copyright 1995) from the Little Feat album *Ain't Had Enough Fun*
Written by Bill Payne, Bill Wray, Paul Barrere, Shaun Murphy, and Fred Tackett
Published by Feat Music/Bill Wray Music/Polygram International Publishing, Inc. [ASCAP]

I sit upon a hill and gaze out on the diamond lights
Strange night, strange city, down below
Neon lights will guide me
Take us all to a better place
Hang on, hang on
Wait for me, just wait for me

Another's smile reminds me
The past is ours, old friend of mine
The pictures still remain

One more night
Hold on, hold on
One more night
With these borderline blues
From a whisper to a shout
Before the flame burns out
Tomorrow is forever
So hold on one more night
Borderline blues

On the run in another city
Another country far from home
Walk slow and listen, the soul says it all
Silent conversations
Borderline blues far behind me
There lies my destiny
Wating for me, waiting for me

It's takin' me a long time
Long lost from sleeping
I'm coming home, I'm coming home

One more night
Hold on, hold on
One more night
With these borderline blues
From a whisper to a shout
Before the flame burns out
Tomorrow is forever
So hold on one more night
Borderline blues

I see the coast, the stars
Spread to the four corners of the world
Free for just an instant
As I fell back down to earth
It's not enough to care anymore
Not enough room to hide
Troubles come and go
But the child remains inside (inside)

One more night
Hold on, hold on
One more night
With these borderline blues
From a whisper to a shout
Before the flame burns out
Tomorrow is forever
So hold on one more night
Borderline blues
